Statement by Mr. KATO Katsunobu, Minister of Finance, Japan
1. Japan welcomes the conclusion of the 21st replenishment negotiations of the International Development Association (IDA21).
2. Japan highly praises that IDA21’s priority areas cover Japan’s key development agenda items such as: strengthening health systems including through the promotion of Universal Health Coverage; bolstering pandemic prevention, preparedness and response; enhancing resilience to natural disasters; and ensuring debt transparency and sustainability.
3. Taking these into account, and despite our fiscal challenges, Japan pledges to contribute JPY 425.7 billion (around USD 2.8 billion) to IDA21, subject to the Diet approval. Japan looks forward to IDA effectively and efficiently utilizing the funds provided by donor countries including Japan and working towards reducing poverty and addressing global challenges in low-income countries.
