The launch event of the Partnership for Resilient and Inclusive Supply-chain Enhancement (RISE) (October 11, 2023)

The launch event of the Partnership for Resilient and Inclusive Supply-chain Enhancement (RISE) was held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, during the WB/IMF Annual Meetings in Marrakech, Morocco.

RISE aims to support low- and middle-income countries in playing bigger roles in the midstream (mineral processing and refining) and downstream (component manufacturing and assembly) in supply chains of clean energy products. Japan and the World Bank has led the development of this initiative.

This event was co-hosted by Finance Minister Suzuki Shunichi and World Bank President Ajay Banga. Choo Kyung-ho, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Korea, Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development of Canada, Mario Marcel Cullell, Treasury Minister of Chile, Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance of India, and Riccardo Barbieri Hermitte, Director General of the Treasury Department of Ministry of Economy and Finance of Italy joined to announce the launch of this partnership, and exchanged views on expectations and prospects for RISE.

Japan will continue to work closely with the World Bank, other relevant institutions, and like-minded countries to help low- and middle-income countries diversify the supply chains of clean energy products and enhance value-addition of their domestic products as part of the global efforts to achieve net zero.
