Issuance of Commemorative Coins for the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor

The Ministry of Finance has decided to issue coins commemorating the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor as follows. They will be issued as outlined in the Attachment.

Remarks

This coin will not be available to be exchanged at financial institutions, etc. and will only be available directly from the Japan Mint via mail order.

This coin will basically be exchanged at financial institutions at face value.

30,000 out of the issued 5 million coins will be available in sets with the 10,000-yen gold coin, directly from the Japan Mint via mail order.

(Note 1) Since the 10,000-yen gold coin using pure gold is crafted with special technologies, the cost required to manufacture it exceeds its face value, which makes it a premium-grade commemorative coin.

(Note 2) The exchange guidelines for the 500-yen bicolor clad coin will be announced by the Ministry of Finance in around September 2019.

(Note 1) All of the gold coins and the bicolor clad coins for set sale are finished to proof standard with special technologies to bring out the luster on the surface.

(Note 2) All prices shown above reflect the consumption tax increase from October 1, 2019, since they will be shipped from October 2019.

(Note 3) The details of the application method for the gold coin and for the coin set is scheduled to be announced on website of the Japan Mint (https://www.mint.go.jp/) at 17:00 on Wednesday, July 10, 2019. Please check the relevant website or make a call to the Japan Mint at 050-5548-8686 (from 8:00 to 21:00 every day) from that time onward.
