Statement by Mr. Shunichi Suzuki, Minister of Finance, Japan
Today, I met with Mr. Ajay Banga, who has been nominated by the United States to be the next President of the World Bank.
In addition to his ample experience in developing countries, Mr. Banga has been addressing critical development challenges, such as climate change and financial inclusion.
Mr. Banga is also committed to continue actively working on the development agendas including global health, debt issues, quality infrastructure, disaster risk management and disaster resilience, on all of which Japan has been playing a leading role.
Japan appreciates Mr. Banga as a highly qualified candidate, based on these considerations, and thus supports his nomination for the next President of the World Bank. I look forward to continuing to cooperate with the World Bank and assist developing countries.
