Japan-U.S. Finance Ministerial Meeting (August 31, 2026)
On August 31, Minister Katayama held a bilateral meeting with the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, Scott Bessent in Asheville, North Carolina. In the meeting, it was reaffirmed that maintaining an orderly yen market is essential for the stability of global financial markets, including those of the U.S, and that continued joint efforts of the U.S. and Japan would help advance this shared objective. The ministers also exchanged views on a range of global economic issues.
