Japan-U.S. Finance Ministerial Meeting (May 12, 2026)
On May 11, Minister Katayama held a dinner with the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, Scott Bessent, who was visiting Japan. Also, on May 12, commencing at 9:20 a.m. [JST] for approximately 35 minutes, she held a bilateral meeting with the Secretary.
During the meetings, they exchanged views on a wide range of global economic issues, including the prospects for the situation in the Middle East and its implications for financial markets, such as foreign exchange markets, responses to growing cyber threats associated with advances in AI, and efforts to strengthen supply chain resilience for critical minerals.
They reaffirmed to further strengthen Japan–U.S. cooperation to address various bilateral and multilateral issues, including through the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting to be held next week.
