The 17th Japan-Australia Economic Dialogue (October 20, 2023)

On October 20, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) of Japan, led by Mr. KANDA Masato, Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs, and the Treasury, Australia, led by Ms. Roxanne Kelley, Deputy Secretary, International and Foreign Investment Group, held the 17th officials-level Economic Dialogue in Tokyo, Japan. The overview of the dialogue is as follows.

  1. 1. In this dialogue, the participants candidly exchanged their views on challenges in the global economy and domestic economies of both countries, and agreed to continue to cooperate closely on global issues, such as support for Ukraine, Multilateral Development Bank (MDB)/IMF reform, global debt, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), strengthening supply chain resilience including through RISE, and support for Pacific Island Countries. The gist of the dialogue was summarized and released as the “Joint Statement on the Japan-Australia Economic Dialogue(PDF:140KB)”.

  2. They agreed to hold the 18th Economic Dialogue in 2024 in Australia.
