Safeguard duties are additional customs duties imposed for the prevention and remedy of serious injury to domestic industries producing like or directly competitive products caused by an increase in imports on such imported goods, in an amount not exceeding the price difference between the domestic and imported goods.
It is provided for in Article 9 of the Customs Tariff Act, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the WTO Agreements.
