Designs of Commemorative Coins for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (Third Issue)

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) issues coins commemorating Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

For the third and last issue, MOF has decided to issue the commemorative coins as described below.

1. Third Issue
 (1) 10,000-yen coin and 1,000-yen coin

 The designs and other details of the 10,000-yen coin and 1,000-yen coin to be issued are as follows.

Note 2. Since these coins use precious metal and are crafted with special technologies, the cost of manufacturing them exceeds their face values.

Note 3. The commemorative coins will only be sold by the Japan Mint, and will not be available to be exchanged at financial institutions, etc.

 (2) 500-yen coin
 Based on the number of coins requested by financial institutions, the number of 500-yen coins to be issued has been decided to be 2,328,000.

Note 1. See the attached reference(PDF:244KB) for the details of the design.

Note 2. The material, quality, weight, diameter, and other features of the 500-yen coin are the same as those of ordinary 500-yen bicolor clad    coins currently circulating. Proof processing technology (making the surface glossy with special technology) is not applied.

Note 3. The 500-yen coin will be exchanged at face value over counters at financial institutions. The specific exchange outline will be announced    by MOF around March 2025.

Note 4. Some of the coins to be issued will not be exchanged at financial institutions, but instead will only be sold at the Japan Mint. Sales    information, including the application method and the application period, will be announced by the Japan Mint around January 2025.


2. Complete set of commemorative coins
 A total of five types of coins commemorating the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (first to third issues) will be newly issued. They will be sold as complete sets of commemorative coins.

Note 1. The five types of coins included in the complete set are: one type of the 10,000-yen gold coin (third issue), three types of the 1,000-yen    silver coin (first to third issues), and one type of the 500-yen coin (third issue).
Note 2. The year inscribed on the reverse of the coins will be the seventh year of the Reiwa era for all five designs.
Note 3. The complete sets of commemorative coins will only be sold by the Japan Mint, and will not be available to be exchanged at financial    institutions, etc.
