Issuance of Commemorative Coins for the 50th Anniversary of the Reversion of Okinawa to Japan

The Ministry of Finance has decided to issue coins commemorating the 50th anniversary of the reversion of Okinawa to Japan as follows. They will be issued as outlined in the Attachment.

The above commemorative coins can be purchased from the Japan Mint through mail-order sales (the coins will not be exchanged at financial institutions).

(Note) Since these coins use precious metals and are crafted with special technologies, the cost required to manufacture them exceeds their face value, making them premium-grade commemorative coins.

    • The commemorative 10,000-yen gold coins and 1,000-yen silver coins for the 50th anniversary of the reversion of Okinawa to Japan will not be exchanged at financial institutions. Instead, they will only be available through mail order to the Japan Mint.
