Designs of The Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 Commemorative Coin Program (Third Issue)
The Ministry of Finance has decided to issue 37 types of coins commemorating the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 in four series before the opening of the Tokyo 2020 Games. For the third issue, designs for ten types of coins were decided as follows for one type of 10,000-yen premium-grade gold coin, four types of 1,000-yen premium-grade silver coin, and five types of 100-yen clad coin. They will be issued as outlined in the Attachment.

(Note 1) The diameters are 26 mm for the 10,000-yen gold coin, 40 mm for the 1,000-yen silver coins, and 22.6 mm for the 100-yen clad coins.
(Note 2) If the Japan Mint’s minting schedule is taken into account, the year inscribed on the reverse of the 1,000 silver coins will be the first year of Reiwa for those with an obverse design of “Gymnastics” and “Judo” and the second year of Reiwa for those with that of “Table Tennis” and “Wheelchair Tennis”.
(Note 3) Clad coins refers to the coins with a metal layer sandwiched by the different types of metal plates by using the clad technology.

- The 10,000-yen gold coins and 1,000-yen silver coins will not be exchanged at financial institutions, and instead will only be available through mail-order to the Japan Mint.
- Applications to purchase the 10,000-yen gold coin or the 1,000-yen silver coin are accepted by the Japan Mint for about three weeks from Friday, November 1, 2019. The sales information, including ordering procedures, will be announced on the Japan Mint website (https://www.mint.go.jp/
) after 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2019.. - Contact for inquiries on application procedures (available from 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 31, 2019): Japan Mint Hello Dial system (050-5548-8686; available from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., operating 365 days a year)
- The 100-yen clad coins will be circulated by being exchanged at their face value over the counter at financial institutions. More details, including the starting day of exchange, will be announced by the Ministry of Finance around December 2019.

(Note 1) Since the 10,000-yen gold coins and 1,000-yen silver coins, using precious metals, are crafted with special technologies, the cost required to manufacture them exceeds their face value, making them premium-grade commemorative coins.
(Note 2) The latent images are different for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 1,000-yen commemorative silver coin and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games 1,000-yen commemorative silver coin. See the Attachments (References 2 to 4 and 8) for details.
(Note 3) In order to allow users to distinguish Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 100-yen commemorative clad coins from Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games 100-yen commemorative clad coins just by touch, the former has a narrow interval between their helical ridges while the latter has a wide interval.
(Note 4) The 10,000-yen gold coins and 1,000-yen silver coins can be purchased from the Japan Mint through mail-order sales. The 100-yen clad coins will be circulated by being exchanged at face value over the counters at financial institutions.
(Note 5) The sales prices for the 10,000-yen gold coins and 1,000-yen silver coins (including tax) are based on the higher consumption tax rate, which will apply from October 1, 2019, because they will be shipped after March 2020.
