Issuance of Bank of Japan Note in New Form
The Ministry of Finance has decided to set new forms for the Bank of Japan Notes of 10,000 yen, 5,000 yen and 1,000 yen in the Ministry of Finance Public Notice (to be posted in the official gazette on December 15, 2023) based on Article 47, paragraph (2) of the Bank of Japan Act. The issuance of new Bank of Japan Notes will start as of July 3, 2024.
Further, the 10,000 yen, 5,000 yen and 1,000 yen notes that are currently in circulation will continue to be valid even after the issuance of new Bank of Japan Notes.
<Attention>
◎ The current series of banknotes will remain valid after the issuance of the new series.
◎ Please be aware of fraudulent practices claiming that the current series of banknotes are invalid.
