Financial Statements Statistics of Corporations by Industry

(Provisional Translation)

Surveys for the Financial Statements Statistics of Corporations by Industry are one part of the fundamental statistical surveys under the Statistics Act and have been conducted as sampling surveys so as to ascertain the current status of business activities of commercial corporations in Japan.

The statistics consist of an annual survey for the purpose of examining the final settlements of accounts over the year, targeting commercial corporations (commenced in 1948), and quarterly surveys for the purpose of examining the provisional settlement of accounts for each quarter, targeting commercial corporations with capital, contributions, or funds of 10 million yen or over (commenced in the first quarter (January to March) of 1950). The surveys are conducted by sending questionnaires by post through financial bureaus and offices nationwide and asking target corporations to fill in self-settled accounts. Since the FY2003 survey, it has been possible to submit questionnaires online.

The “finance and insurance” industry has come to be included in the targets since the FY2008 survey.

The results of an annual survey are publicized in September, and those of quarterly surveys in March, June, September, and December.
