Statement by the Minister of Finance

  1. Following the Action Plan on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting developed by the OECD Committee on Fiscal Affairs in last July, the first set of the reports has been published today and submitted to the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Governors Meeting. I welcome the steady progress being made on the Action Plan, which is an epoch-making initiative in the history of the international cooperation in the area of international taxation.

  2. In the market economy, closing those loopholes exploitable for international tax avoidance and evasion that impede a level-playing field which promoting legitimate business activities is critical for ensuring sound economic growth of each country and tax payers’ trust in tax system. As no single country can effectively cope with those problems alone, cooperation and collaboration among countries are indispensable.

  3. Regarding the BEPS Action Plan, I have been actively engaged in the discussion at the various fora such as the G20 and Japan is strongly supporting the work. Going forward, we would like to act on the recommendations specified in the reports as appropriate and continue to lead the discussion at the international fora.
