Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters will Enter into Force for Japan
- On June 28 (Fri.), the Government of Japan deposited the instrument of acceptance of the “Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters” and the “Protocol amending the Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Tax Matters” to the Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
- Accordingly, this Convention will enter into force for Japan on October 1, 2013 (on the first day of the month following the expiration of a period of three months after the date of the deposit of the instrument of acceptance).
- This Convention enables various kinds of administrative assistance in tax matters (exchange of information, assistance in recovery, and service of documents) among the tax authorities of many other countries in order to properly deal with international tax evasion and tax avoidance.
