Statement by Mr. Taro ASO, Minister of Finance, Japan

Today, Mr. Toshinori DOI – a candidate supported by the Ministry of Finance, Japan - was appointed as the next Director of the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) at the ASEAN+3 Finance and Central Bank Deputies’ Meeting in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

Mr. DOI developed a thorough knowledge of the activities of AMRO while he was in charge of AMRO related matters as a senior official at the Ministry. Mr. DOI has also had extensive experience in many areas of international finance. I am sure that his appointment as the next AMRO Director is the result of his exemplary track record.

Against a backdrop of heightened uncertainty about the global economy, I am certain that AMRO, under the leadership of Mr. DOI, will continuously contribute to securing macroeconomic and financial stability in the ASEAN+3 region, both by conducting macroeconomic surveillance in the region and by supporting the operations of the Chiang Mail Initiative Multilateralisation (CMIM).
