Ministry of Finance
The Ministry of Finance will implement the Container Security Initiative (CSI) with Canada in the following manner, in accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation on Container Security signed with the Canada Border Services Agency on June 5, 2008. Implementing CSI with Canada, in addition to CSI with the U.S., will lead to furthering the security and facilitation of maritime cargo shipments between Japan and North America.

2. Ports to be covered
Japan: Ports of Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya and Kobe
Canada: Port of Vancouver
3. Operations to be implemented
(1) Coverage
The maritime cargo containers to be covered under CSI with Canada are those which are loaded on vessels at the respective ports above and destined for each country.
(2) Cargo Examination
The cargo containers identified as high risk will be examined in a prompt and appropriate manner by using such equipment as large-scale X-ray inspection system.
