Seminar for Central Asian and Caucasian Countries 2023

Policy Research Institute (PRI) held its “Seminar for Central Asian and Caucasian Countries 2023” from August 17 to September 8, 2023, for the first time in four years in person. This annual seminar is aimed at helping participating countries to develop their human resources, through the dissemination of knowledge and experiences regarding the Japanese public finance and economy to young executive candidates from finance ministries of developing countries, especially those in Asia, with which Japan has close social and economic relations.
 This year, the PRI accepted a total of 15 participants from 6 countries, from the Banking and Finance Academy of Uzbekistan (BFA), and the Ministries of Finance from countries including Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyz, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The seminar offered great opportunities for participants to acquire comprehensive knowledge through lectures, preparing policy papers and engagement in active discussions.

Curriculum

1.Policy Lectures

Lectures on Japan’s economy and finances were delivered by MOF/PRI and other relevant government institutions, scholars, and experts.

2.General Lectures

Lectures on Japanese culture and society were delivered by scholars and experts.


3.Group Work

The participants formed several groups according to the topics they chose in light of their respective national policy issues. Each group identified common issues within group members, discussed policy recommendations for their own countries under the guidance of a scholar or expert, and presented their group policy papers as the outcome.

4.Field Trips

The participants visited following organizations and facilities to understand the economy and the social environment in Japan.
