Design of Commemorative Coin for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (Third Issue)

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) plans to issue coins commemorating Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, in three installments.

For the third issue, a 500-yen coin, 1,000-yen coin, and 10,000-yen coin are scheduled to be issued. Among them, MOF has decided to issue the 500-yen coin as described below.

MOF will announce the designs and other details of the 1,000-yen coin and 10,000-yen coin in due course.

Note 1. See the attached reference(PDF:244KB) for the details of the design.

Note 2. The material, quality, weight, diameter, and other features of the 500-yen coin are the same as those of ordinary 500-yen bicolor clad coins currently circulating.

Note 3. The 500-yen coin will be exchanged at face value over counters at financial institutions. The number of 500-yen coins to be issued and the specific exchange outline will be announced by MOF in due course.

            The number of coins to be issued will be decided based on the number of coins requested by financial institutions.

Note 4. Since the 1,000-yen coin and the 10,000-yen coin use precious metal and are crafted using special technologies, the costs of manufacturing them exceed their face values. These coins will be sold by the Japan Mint. Their designs and other details will be announced by MOF in due course.
