Informal Meeting to Combat the Financing of Terrorism in Asia

     The Informal Meeting to combat the financing of terrorism in Asia was held this afternoon at the Mita House in Tokyo.
 

>

     The meeting followed the First Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of the FSF that was convened on 18-19 October in Tokyo. The meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Finance, Japan and chaired by Mr. Kuroda, Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs. Senior finance ministry, central bank, financial supervisory authority representatives from Australia, China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and U.S. took part in the meeting.

     The meeting started by the presentation by the Ministry of Finance, Japan on recent initiatives to combat terrorism financing in the international community, including the action plan to combat the financing of terrorism attached to the recent Statement of G7.Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (October 6, 2001).

     All participants pledged full support to global efforts to combat the financing of terrorism. Then, the participants made brief presentations on steps taken so far to combat terrorist financing in each country. 
 

>

     In addition, they discussed the roles of finance ministries, supervisory authorities and central banks to fight against terrorist financing. Finally, participants agreed that information sharing to combat terrorist financing should be further enhanced.
