Outline of “Program of Seminars” during the 2012 Annual Meetings in Tokyo

Each year, during the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group, high level seminars are organized under the umbrella of “Program of Seminars”. This year, more than 10 seminars will be held from Wednesday, October 10 through Saturday October 13. Many of these seminars will be co-hosted by the Japan Government and Bank of Japan, etc with the IMF and World Bank Group. As the Host Government, we aim to make strong intellectual contribution to the world. Please see attached outline of the program of seminarsPDF .

The seminars will cover a wide range of topics with special emphasis on the global economy, jobs and competitiveness, global health, inclusive growth, mid- and long-term growth in Asia, low income country issues, sovereign risk, and the Euro Area. These seminars are expected to provide a platform for global policy discussions and coordination.

Seminar panelists will include high level speakers from governments, academics, the private sector, and civil society organizations engaged in dialogue on finding solutions to the major financial and development challenges confronting the international community.

The Government of Japan and the World Bank will also co-host a Special Event in Sendai, a disaster-affected area, from October 9-10, 2012. The event will highlight lessons learnt from the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami and will be a unique opportunity to translate the Japanese experience into global lessons and to advance the mainstreaming of disaster risk management as a development priority. Details about this event will also be announced later.

The 2012 Program of Seminars is open to anyone accredited to attend the Annual Meetings. This includes government delegates; representatives of the private sector, civil society, government agencies, academia, members of the press, observers from international organizations, International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group officials and staff.
