Information about the “International Transactions in Securities” series
 

・

 What is the series “International Transactions in Securities” ?
  The series “International Transactions in Securities (based on reports from designated major investors)” consists of portfolio investment statistics based on reports from major investors designated by the Minister of Finance.
 
・ Differences between the “International Transactions in Securities” series and the portfolio investment figures in the “Balance of Payments” reports
  Portfolio investment in the “Balance of Payments” reports is based on reports from designated major investors and other investors. The coverage of portfolio investment in the “Balance of Payments” reports is wider than that in the “International Transactions in Securities” series.
However, the “International Transactions in Securities” series serves as the provisional version of the portfolio investment statistics given in the “Balance of Payments” reports. The weekly results of the “International Transactions in Securities” are released in the following week and the monthly results are released roughly one month earlier than the figures for portfolio investment given in the “Balance of Payments” reports.

・ Information on the “Securities Investment at Home and Abroad (contract basis and settlement basis)” status reports
  The “International Transactions in Securities” series was started  in January 2005. This replaced the statistical series that was in use until December 2004: “Securities Investment at Home and Abroad (contract basis and settlement basis)”. Due to a change of methodology, the data of the two statistics are not continuous.
