Answers to Questions about the Contest for Designing Commemorative Coins for the Great East Japan Earthquake Reconstruction Project
The Ministry of Finance and the Japan Mint have launched the contest for designing Commemorative Coins for the Great East Japan Earthquake Reconstruction Project. Here after, we answer frequent questions, among many inquiries and opinions received.
I. How to draw designs for 1,000 yen silver coins
Designs for the silver coins are requested to be drawn in color as the 1,000 yen silver coins will be color-printed, and you can use pictures for their designs.
However, please be advised that in case of utilizing existing pictures, taken by others or in the case of using an architecture as an object of your picture, you may be infringing copyrights or any other intellectual rights belonging to others.
II. Recognition to the winners
Commemorative gifts will be awarded to the winners as follows:
ⅰ) For the winners (for each winner of 3 designs of gold coins and silver coins)
A Testimonial (from the Minister of Finance), a Medal (of your design) and Commemorative Coins for the Great
East Japan Earthquake Reconstruction Project (a 10,000 yen gold coin and a 1,000 yen silver coin).
Note: The Commemorative Coins will be awarded to the winners in FY2015.
ⅱ) For those remained in the final selections (for each person of 30 designs of gold coins and silver coins)
A Testimonial (from the Director of the Japan Mint) and a commemorative medal
ⅲ) For excellent designs from elementary-school-students or junior-high-school-students (about 3 designs)
A Testimonial (from the Director of the Japan Mint), a coin set and a book of Japanese coins illustration.
ⅳ) For groups of elementary- school or junior-high-school students
A Testimonial (from the Director of the Japan Mint), a coin set and a book of Japanese coins illustration.
In addition, the winners will be invited to the minting ceremony for the Commemorative Coins for the Great East Japan Earthquake Reconstruction Project. (We will contact the winners about the ceremony at a later date.)
